About the Event

the inner[blackgirl]child workshop, inspired by reelaviolette botts-ward's first book, mourning my inner[blackgirl]child, is an intimate sister circle gathering that combines poetic performance, creative mirror work and journaling practice to invite Black womxn deeper into spiritual restoration through inner child healing. In this workshop, reelaviolette shares poetic reflections on her own journey to rediscovering her Black girlhood as a sacred space of rememory and reclamation.  She then uses multimedia sensory experience, meditative praxis, and creativity to invite participants deeper into their own inner child healing practice. Participants will create love offerings to and from their inner[blackgirl]child, connect with other blackwomxnhealing, and find new tools for revival within their own lives. For more on inner[blackgirl]child healing, and reelaviolette's work, visit blackwomxnhealing.com.

Ree Botts-Ward

Ree Botts is a poet, scholar, and activist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ree received her MA in African American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, and her BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Spelman College.

Her work focuses on the ways Black women create and sustain healing spaces that inspire individual agency. Rooted deeply in a framework of Black Feminist Thought, Ree engages nuanced conversations on the ways in which Black sisterhood impacts Black women’s interiority.

Botts is the founder and CEO of The Selfology Movement, an initiative designed to assist Black women and girls in their journey to self care. Ree allows the knowledge she gains from Black women and girls across the country through Selfology workshops to inform her research, and she also utilizes these workshops to teach community members what she learns in graduate classes.
